Many widows live in desperate poverty, as they are unable to support themselves and their children under existing circumstances of poor wages, high cost of primary commodities and sub-standard living conditions. Their most marketable skill is the weaving they have passed down for generations to make their own clothes. The goal of the project is to recognize the value of the women's skills and provide a means for them to market their weavings in a manner which will give long-range benefits to themselves and their children. This project enables widows to move from a sense of helplessness and dependence on handouts to a sense of self-worth and economic independence.
